Steve’s Flowers and Gifts Inc. was founded in 1973 by Steve and Linda Huth. During Mr. Huth’s college years, he worked for a local flower shop, delivering, doing odd jobs, and eventually designing. Steve had dreams of opening his own floral facility on the south side of Indianapolis, and when opportunity came, he went to work to make it happen. His philosophy from the start was making sure his customers were happily satisfied. The dedication and commitment towards his goal allowed Steve to move into a larger facility in 1976, and opened a second location in the fast growing town of Greenwood in 1982. In October of 1988, Steve designed and had built his own building which consists of 7,000 square feet.

The concept of Floral Design Day began because of the masterful teaching skills of a man named Carl Rittner. He is a gentleman who operated a school for floral design in Boston Massachusetts. “The Rittners School of Floral Design” was so widely acclaimed that people aspiring to be expert class floral designers wanted to attend his school. In fact people all over the world wanted to be taught by Mr. Rittner.

Becoming a floral designer in the multibillion dollar floral industry is not a difficult. A key ingredient is the true passion for creating beautiful art. One may enter the floral design industry with a high school diploma. However to truly be in league of professionals and to better hone their skills or develop knowledge, continuing education is highly recommended.
Courses offered at community colleges or trade schools can deepen a persons knowledge and understanding of floral design. People can receive on the job training by working in green houses or other horticultural environments. For those truly motivated by a career as a floral designer, it is possible to obtain the Certified Floral Designer credential offered by The American Institute of Floral Designers.
