Steve’s Flowers and Gifts Inc.
Family Owned and Operated
Steve’s Flowers and Gifts Inc. was founded in 1973 by Steve and Linda Huth. As Steve was attending college, he worked for a local flower shop, delivering, doing odd jobs, and eventually designing. Steve had dreams of opening his own floral facility on the south side of Indianapolis, and when opportunity came, he went to work to make it happen. His philosophy from the start was making sure his customers were happily satisfied. The dedication and commitment towards his goal allowed Steve to move into a larger facility in 1976, and opened a second location in the fast growing town of Greenwood in 1982. In October of 1988, Steve designed and had built his own building which consists of 7,000 square feet.
With greenhouse, card and gift display area, design room, plant department, and a large receiving and delivery area, he supplies his customers with exceptional service and a comfortable setting for shopping and browsing. Through the years, Steve has worked hard for excellent quality in designs, which led to the expansion of the original location in 1999. Expanding this location 3,000 more square feet enabled Steve to have a larger design center to monitor quality control and ensure customer satisfaction.
In 1995, Steve added the convenience of ordering online at www.stevesflowers.com. Today, Steve has made the commitment to adding the convenience of online ordering, while at the same time providing the Personal Service that his customers have come accustom to.
Steve’s Flowers and Gifts is the best flower shoppe for fresh and beautiful flowers for a May Day gift.
The Perfect Picnic
May Day
A fun Spring time public holiday that dates back to ancient times is May Day. This holiday is celebrated by multiple European countries. It is a festival filled with people dancing, singing and baking cakes as part of the wonderful activities.
Many centuries ago, the earliest account of a May Day festival was the celebration of Flora the goddess of flowers. This festival called Floralia lasted from April 27th until May 3rd. There were many theatrical performances at which hares and goats were released. Also as part of the traditional ceremony, people who attended were pelted with beans.
The 2nd century AD saw a different kind of celebration related to May Day. It was known as a “nocturnal dramatic festival”. This provocative festival occurred every three years in May. The government spared no expense in allocated funds to be used for the thirty day festival. During the celebration there were extravagant banquets and participant offerings. However, eventually the festival was terminated due to the element of promiscuity and the bad theme it portrayed.
The Roman Catholics have celebrated May Day since the 18th century. The intent of their observance of this day is to pay respect to the Blessed Virgin Mary. Then secondly to her husband Joseph who was also the surrogate father to Jesus. There are celebrations of children performing in school skits and beautiful decorations of flowers are placed on the statue of the Virgin Mary. Joseph is also honored with a two day feast.
A fun event in some parts of North America is the tradition of creating lovely small baskets filled with colorful Spring flowers. Once complete these baskets are secretly placed on someone’s doorstep. Then the person leaving the basket will ring the door bell and run away.
The professional and talented floral designers at Steve’s Flowers and Gifts would be delighted to assist you in a selection of that perfect flower arrangement, green plant or gift basket on this upcoming May Day on May 1st.
