National Parents Day

In the dictionary the definition of Parent is a person who brings up and cares for another. However, I would argue that parents are probably the most self sacrificing people we know. They are the back bone of our world. Their mission was to dedicate their lives to raising us.  This coming July 26th is National Parents Day. The perfect time to visit Steve’s Flowers and Gifts. Mother’s Day and Father’s Day have been celebrated separately for decades. However, it was not until 1994 that a day was officially created to honor parents as a unit.  In in 1994, President Bill Clinton signed a Congressional Resolution that effectively created National Parent’s Day. President Clinton felt it was very important to publicly recognize the supporting role all parents play in the rearing of their children.

There are kind and thoughtful things you can do special on National Parent’s Day. Mom and Dad would love an in person visit if that is possible or a phone call if not. The simple act of showing them how much they mean to you will be so powerful in their hearts. Plus they will not always be around and no day can be taken for granted.

It is not uncommon during the teenage years to think that our parents are or were perhaps a bit out of touch and did not have the right answers. As we look back on lessons learned and sacrifices given from parents, it is easy to see that they really did understand and were much wiser than they were given credit for. Music to their hearts and ears would be to tell them they were right.

National Parent’s Day is a perfect time to celebrate a holiday!  In today’s world while travel is not recommended, you might not be able to easily fly them away to their favorite destination but you could certainly arrange a small gathering for a Parent’s Day party. Bring out some of your favorite photos to bring back fond memories or play some of the old tunes you heard them play when you were young or cook their favorite foods. They will have a good time and so will you. Not to mention you will make new memories.

We do not remember swaddling clothes, being feed and burped or long nights where our parents stayed up holding and rocking us back to sleep. If you have kids or grand kids, you no doubt have had sleepless nights comforting an infant. Parents think we are wonderful miracles. They are cheerleaders for everything we do as a young child and throughout our life. Since they have celebrated us, National Parents Day gives us the opportunity to  celebrate them right back.

COVID-19
As of May 4th, our Indianapolis location has re-opened from 8 am to 6 pm, and our Greenwood and Pendleton locations are re-opening back to regular hours of 9 am to 6 pm. We are still offering curb-side service at your convenience, and as an additional precaution, we’re offering no-contact delivery for those who prefer it. Upon request, our delivery drivers will contact recipients in advance to arrange delivery, leaving the package at the door at the request of the recipient or sender.
