October 16th is National Boss’s Day. This is special day set aside to recognize and celebrate our boss. In In 1958, Patricia Bays Haroski, who was working for her father as a secretary at an Illinois State Farm Company, registered Bosses’ Day as a holiday with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in honor of her father. She had a strong feeling that supervisors were not properly acknowledged by younger workers as having the solid work ethics of dedication, hard work and loyalty. In honor of her father and October 16 being his birthday, she pursued having this day be a day of national recognition. It took another several years but eventually Illinois Governor Otto Kerner honored her request and October 16th became National Bosses’ Day.

Today, Bosses’ Day is recognized in several other countries. Australia, India, and South Africa are some of the other countries that have adopted the concept of honoring supervisors.
