Steve’s Flowers and Gifts Inc.

Family Owned and Operated

Steve’s Flowers and Gifts Inc. was founded in 1973 by Steve and Linda Huth. As Steve was attending college, he worked for a local flower shop, delivering, doing odd jobs, and eventually designing. Steve had dreams of opening his own floral facility on the south side of Indianapolis, and when opportunity came, he went to work to make it happen. His philosophy from the start was making sure his customers were happily satisfied. The dedication and commitment towards his goal allowed Steve to move into a larger facility in 1976, and opened a second location in the fast growing town of Greenwood in 1982. In October of 1988, Steve designed and had built his own building which consists of 7,000 square feet.

With greenhouse, card and gift display area, design room, plant department, and a large receiving and delivery area, he supplies his customers with exceptional service and a comfortable setting for shopping and browsing. Through the years, Steve has worked hard for excellent quality in designs, which led to the expansion of the original location in 1999. Expanding this location 3,000 more square feet enabled Steve to have a larger design center to monitor quality control and ensure customer satisfaction.

In 1995, Steve added the convenience of  ordering online at www.stevesflowers.com. Today, Steve has made the commitment to adding the convenience of online ordering, while at the same time providing the Personal Service that his customers have come accustom to.

Add to the celebration and memories of Thanksgiving Day with gorgeous flowers from Steve’s Flowers and Gifts!

Spice Age Flower Arrangement

Spice Age

Thanksgiving 2020 has been altered by the pandemic. Normal activities  like travel and large family gathers are issues of concern rather than care free common place events.  Thanksgiving is however, an all time favorite holiday for many people.  Families will find new and creative ways to share the traditions of Thanksgiving with their loved ones.

History reflects that the origination of Thanksgiving dates back to 1621. It was a harsh winter when the Pilgrims first landed in America but they were able to survive by the generosity of the Native Americans that shared food with them. To repay their new friends, the Pilgrims held a three day feast. The bounty they shared included dried fruits, boiled pumpkin, turkey, venison and other foods. A slightly different menu from what we are accustomed to but no doubt a delightful feast at that time.

The theme of a celebration of harvest has continued to evolve over the years.  Today we think of Thanksgiving as a time to give thanks for our foundation of this great Nation. Of course it is also the official start of the holiday season and a special time of fellowship with family and friends. After unyielding persistence from Sarah Josepha Hale, writer of “Mary Had a Little Lamb”, President Lincoln declared Thanksgiving a nation wide holiday in 1863.

This year while college and NFL football is in swing with limited fan attendance, The Macy’s Day Parade will be a television only event. ” Macy’s confirmed in a statement, “showcasing the Macy’s Parade’s signature mix of giant character helium balloons, fantastic floats, street performers, clowns, and heralding the arrival of the holiday season with the one-and-only Santa Claus.”

There will still be the magnificent balloons featuring Disney characters and super heroes. These will however not be controlled by humans but rather by specially rigged vehicles. And instead of following the normal route from uptown Manhattan to Midtown, the event will be staged in Herald Square.

In order to provide a set of safety guidelines to help all people stay safe during this pandemic, the CDC has ranked the following activities into three areas: lower risk, moderate risk, and higher risk.

Lower risk activities

  • Having a small dinner with only people who live in your household.
  • Preparing traditional family recipes for family and neighbors, especially those at higher risk of severe illness from COVID-19, and delivering them in a way that doesn’t involve contact with others.
  • Having a virtual dinner and sharing recipes with friends and family.
  • Shopping online rather than in person on the day after Thanksgiving or the next Monday.
  • Watching sports events, parades, and movies from home.

Moderate risk activities

  • Having a small outdoor dinner with family and friends who live in your community.
  • Lower your risk by following CDC’s recommendations on gatherings.
  • Visiting pumpkin patches or orchards where people use hand sanitizer before touching pumpkins or picking apples, wearing masks is encouraged or enforced, and people are able to maintain social distancing.
  • Attending a small outdoor sports events with safety precautions in place.

Higher risk activities

  • Going shopping in crowded stores just before, on, or after Thanksgiving.
  • Participating or being a spectator at a crowded race.
  • Attending crowded parades.
  • Using  alcohol or drugs, which can cloud judgement and increase risky behaviors.
  • Attending large indoor gatherings with people from outside of your household.

The talented floral designers at Steve’s Flowers and Gifts would be delighted to help you prepare a beautiful fall Thanksgiving  flower arrangement for your home or that of a loved one.
